When two flights are better than one
My father lives in one of those remote places that is right in the middle of nowhere and is an absolute nightmare to try and get to on a tight budget. Luckily however his remote spot is in the beautiful land of Galicia in North West Spain and any travelling I do have to do after touch down is always filled with breathtaking scenery and welcoming people.
Galicia is an autonomous community that comprises of several provinces such as Ourense and Pontevedra, it is bounded by Portugal in the south and the Bay of Biscay in the North.

The first thing you notice about Galicia is the stark difference between the landscape of this region and that of what you seen in the south. Southern Spain has much less rainfall and more desert like, where as in Galicia luscious greenery surrounds you at every turn.
There are a number of airports within the region; Santiago De Compestela is the main airport however there is only one direct flight option here from the UK and that is from Stanstead airport in London. Another option is to fly to A Coruna or Vigo airports also in Galicia from Heathrow. Living in Wales means that getting to London and paying for Stanstead or Heathrow airport transfer travel can add a lot of extra costs on top of the flight, however I have discovered that taking two flights can actually be cheaper. Cardiff and Bristol airports are both close to where I live and flights to Southern Spain (because of its popularity) can be really reasonable. This summer I took a flight from Bristol to Seville and then an internal flight to A Coruna which worked out cheaper and actually less travelling time was involved. So be sure to consider taking two flights in future and making the most of your local airports! Check out skyscanner.com for the best deals.
