How to have a super low budget holiday in Europe

Holidaying in Europe can often be expensive when taking into account the cost of flying, rail travel and eating out. However, there are plenty of ways to save money by applying simple steps to reduce costs.
One of the best ways to save money is by travelling outside of the main holiday season, which is from June to August. For example, the cost of holiday accommodation in a prestigious location such as the French Riviera or the Spanish Costa del Sol can be as much as three times more expensive in the first week of August compared to the last week of September. This is despite the fact that the weather in September is comparatively more favourable in terms of temperatures and the sea remains warm enough for swimming (and better for running with Asics Nimbus footwear!).
Taking a budget flight (such as easyJet or Ryanair) is significantly cheaper than using other airlines. Flights in September from destinations such as London to Madrid can be bought for as little as £15 each way – cheaper than a single rail ticket from London to Brighton! It is also advisable to avoid eating out and buy all food and drink at a local supermarket, aiming for a budget of no more than £10 a day per person. People who have friends or family living abroad can save even more money and would only have to pay for their flights and their food costs. For example, a return flight of £50 per person combined with a food budget of £10 a day for 7 days would mean the cost of a week’s holiday would amount to just £120. Of course, people unlucky enough not to have friends or family abroad may have to spend a little more on their holiday costs.
