England’s natural beauty and compact size is perfect for exploring on foot. A challenging, rewarding trek is the one to Great Gable. So you won’t have to ride a horse for this trip hence equine liability insurance is also not need. It will be perfect to slowly stroll along and enjoy the scenery.

Great Gable is one of England’s tallest mountains. While steep, it has a flat summit offering incomparable views of the entire English Lake District. One popular way to Great Gable is via Honister Pass, which begins in Seatoller, a village in the Borrowdale valley.

The Honister Slate Mine, outside of Seatoller, is an interesting site to visit, and is where the path to Great Gable begins. From the mine’s car park, a path leads to the top of Fleetwith fell, and continues around the Grey Knotts fell. Behind, the view of Buttermere at this point is lovely.

The path continues on to the summit of Brandreth, and leads down towards Green Gable, Great Gable’s smaller sister hill. At the bottom of Green Gable, take the path around it, not up it. The views are lovely as you continue towards Great Gable. The final ascent to Great Gable’s summit is very steep, but the views are worth the hard trek.

The trip down is also lovely. Take the South East path, which will lead to Sty Head. Continue on and be delighted by the lovely Taylorgill Force Waterfall. Follow the path to Borrowdale, which is popular and dotted with charming waterfalls and scenery.
